WBC interim super lightweight champion Regis “Rougarou” Prograis (23-0, 19 KOs) scored a one-sided twelve round unanimous decision over former WBO lightweight champion Terry Flanagan (33-2, 13 KOs) on Saturday night in a World Boxing Super Series 140lb quarterfinal at the U.N.O. Lakefront Arena in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Prograis was in command all the way. The bout almost ended when Prograis dropped Flanagan in round eight with a straight left, then punished him for the rest of the round. But the very tough Flanagan not only survived the round, but went the distance. Scores were 119-108, 118-109, 117-110.
In the semi-final, ‘Rougarou’ will face WBA super world champion Kiryl Relikh.
“I want to bring big-time boxing back to New Orleans and guess what, I did it!” said Prograis after the fight.
“Flanagan was a tough fighter and I knew he would be hard to get to. But I had the most fun out there tonight than I’ve ever had from round one to round twelve. Now the world is seeing what I can do. There’s nobody in this tournament who can beat me. The Ali Trophy is mine, it doesn’t matter who I fight!”
