Undefeated middleweight contender and former junior middleweight world champion Jaime Munguía (39-0, 31 KOs) scored an impressive third round TKO against previously unbeaten D’Mitrius “Big Meech” Ballard (21-1-1, 13 KOs) on Saturday night in the iconic Bullring by the Sea in Tijuana, BCN, Mexico.

Munguia and Ballard exchanged jabs in the opening round. In the second, Munguia landed crisp combinations, while Ballard let his hands go. Attacking in the third round, Munguia backed Ballard to the ropes, shortly after a left hook staggered Ballard, Munguia followed up dropping Ballard. Munguia continued his attack as the referee stopped the fight at 1:47.

Undefeated lightweight sensation William “Camaron” Zepeda (25-0, 23 KOs) of San Mateo Atenco, Mexico, was in a wild one as he scored a third round knockout over Luis “Bofo” Viedas (29-12-1, 10 KOs) of Tijuana, Mexico. Zepeda boxed patiently in the opening round. A straight left by Zepeda nearly sent Viedas through the ropes in round two but Viedas returned the favor scoring a knockdown. Things got rough after as Zepeda shoved Viedas to the canvas. A straight left found its mark once again for Zepeda as he dropped Viedas for the second time. Zepeda finished Vieda with a two-punch combo sending him to the canvas for a third time as the referee reached a ten count at 1:51 of the third.

Super lightweight Diego “Azabache” Torres (14-0, 13 KOs) from Zapopan, Mexico, pulled off a unanimous decision over Jonathan “Perita” Escobedo Martinez (8-3-1, 2 KOs). Torres had his hands full in going the distance for the first time in his career. He used his height and reach in the early rounds, boxing effectively as he kept Martinez at a distance. Martinez showed his scrappiness in the third round as he connected and stopped Torres’s momentum. The undefeated prospect Torres showed his superior skill the following round connecting with precise combinations as Martinez’s face began to swell up. Despite getting tagged Martinez kept pressing and his moment in the fifth, backing up Torres.

Halfway through in the sixth, Martinez kept coming as Torres boxed from a distance popping the jab, Martinez appeared to score a knockdown, but the referee ruled it a slip. The momentum appeared in Martinez’s favor as the pressure continued as he stayed on top of Torres. Late in the fight in the eighth, Martinez pressured and attacked as Torres countered but it was Martinez making the prospect fight. A point was deducted from Torres in the ninth for spitting out his mouthpiece as he spit out the mouthpiece numerous times throughout the fight. Martinez kept attacking in the final round as Torres fighting off his backfoot behind the jab, the two finished on their feet trading away.

In the end the judges scored the bout 98-91, 97-92, and 97-92 in favor of Diego Torres.

Opening the DAZN broadcast, Guadalajara’s undefeated featherweight Rafael “El Divino” Espinoza (18-0, 15 KOs) made quick work of Alie “Demolition Man” Laurel (18-7-1, 11 KOs) of Manila, Philippines. Espinoza scored two knockdowns in the opening round as the bout was stopped at 1:37 of the first.

Featherweight Cristian Olivo (19-0-1, KO’s ) of Hermosillo, Sonora won a unanimous decision over Miguel Mateos (12-5, 7 KO’s) of Guadalajara, Mexico. Olivo boxed well connecting with solid punches as Mateos showed aggression. In the third round, Olivo began to land heavily, snapping Mateos head. It was Olivo that dominated and boxed well on his way to a decision win.

Super welterweight Jorge “Chino” Garcia (23-3, 19 KOs) of Los Mochis, Mexico, scored a third-round knockout over Jesus “Dengue” Nunez Rodriguez (19-9-2, 13 KOs) of Sinaloa, Mexico. A flurry by Garcia sent Rodriguez to the canvas as the referee reached a ten count at 1:09 of the third round.

  • Escobedo better find himself a good tram cause he’s gonna be a future champion of he’s got a good corner.

    • You’re right. He’s rough hewn but is one tough sum bitch. Agreed, with a good corner/ trainer he could be fighting and possibly winning a title in 2 or 3 years.

  • dang. I repeat, the first guy who can box , and take a punch will dethrone this guy. Munguia is a c fighter. Nuff said.

  • Andrade vs Munguia
    Needs to happen this year
It will be a revealing match for both fighters
Boo Boo will get tremendous exposure cause this fight will be in a big stage
If he wins he can possibly be in big events from there on
Munguia will finally get tested by a top tier fighter and his skills, power and endurance will be exposed
Hope it happens maybe by August

    • Boo Boo has always been overrated, with a record full of nobodies, sorta like himself.

  • Keep feeding this kid a steady diet of stiffs until ready to cash him out. Rinse and repeat

  • Time for Munguia to fight Andrade. This is a good time for Andrade to get a bright light by fighting Munguia.

However, Munguia vs. Eubank, Jr. would create SERIOUS HEAT for less than 12 rounds.

    • Andre is willing to fight them all!

The problem is that none of them want to fight him!

He’s going to be in one those boxers that is so good, well known champions I’ll fight him.

  • There are 4 possible fights for Munguia where he will be under stiff test:Zhanibek Alimkhanuly, Carlos Adames,Esquiva Falcao or Chris Eubank Jr. I believe is about time that Munguia should start to face this level of opposition or fight any of the current champions

  • I WANT TO SEE HIM FIGHT BOO BOO… IT’S ABOUT TIME… HE NEEDS TO STOP FIGHTING THESE BUMS

  • “Jaime Munguía scored an impressive third round TKO”

    Impressive???? LOL

Nothing impressive about beating a much smaller man with limited experience. I’m sure Munguia rehydrated 15-20lbs., the now well known Mexican boxer trick.

      • He is bigger Tony, he’s naturally bigger than Munguia. Ballard’s been at least a middleweight his entire career, he’s been as high as lightheavy. They fought a few weeks apart in 2014, Ballard weighed in for his fight at 169, Munguia was 139 for his.

  • Everybody keeps yelling Andrade but lets not forget Andrade is moving up, or so he says. What about Charlo. What about GGG. Those r two champs that dont fight anyone. Its time they jump off that Canelo paycheck wagon otherwise their gonna be 50 years old still waiting on their shot.

  • Guy needs to step it up. Mandatory challenger to Andrade but won’t fight him. Boxing has become a joke. This guy hasn’t fought anyone of note at middleweight. How about putting him in with Canelo? Just cash him out.

    • I like Munguia but Benevidez @ 68 will wreck him, too big and too good of a skilled powerhouse.

  • This guy is your typical Mexican record padding bum. Gilbert Ramirez is the other one. They are all following the footsteps of their God, who padded his way to 81-0 with the help of taxi driver opponents.

  • We all know Munguía is a class c fighter but at least he has been a good class c fighter more than we all expected it
