Undefeated WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo (30-0, 22 KOs) walked through the resistance of Dennis Hogan (28-3-1, 7 KOs) and stopped him in round seven on Saturday night at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
After going the distance in his previous two bouts, Charlo vowed to finish Hogan early and he did. Charlo dropped Hogan with an uppercut early in round four, but Hogan gamely survived Charlo’s furious follow-up. Charlo continued to stalk Hogan and in round seven he floored Hogan again with a lead left hook to end it. Time was :28.
“The middleweight division is wide open,” said Charlo afterward. “I’m the WBC champion. I’m going to enjoy this and spend time with my team. I’m here to fight whoever. You have to make the right decisions and do it at the right time. That’s what it’s all about.”

What a joke fight. Not too many times do you defend your title against a fighter who’s last fight was a loss at a lower weight class who is a soft puncher. Charlo you dodged Andrade at 154. You have no pathway to the major players and you don’t care. With that bolo punch celebration beating on a smaller guy your so happy you won it’s almost sick.
What else is he going to do? Charlo is only an undefeated club fighter. He ducked Andrade because he would get seriously embarrassed..
Derevyanchenko and triple G both stop him.
Chris: VERY well said. Until Charlo grows a pair and calls out a fight that can happen he has no creditability with me. When asked about D’Chenko he played it off cuz he wants no part of a real fighter.
I’m sorry, anybody who gets punched in the face for a living definitely doesn’t have to grow a pair. They go through unbelievable training to prepare for a fight. It’s easy for us to say stuff behind a keyboard.
Chris I have never agreed with any of your points, except for this one. You hit the nail on the head.
Andrade is the only real fight he has to get himself up there with GGG and Canelo. If he wont fight Boo Boo then he will just be a bum with a belt.
—Boohoohoo for BooBoo!!!
S/he and the Charlene sisters been ducking their lingerie debut together.
Let them share French bonbons on grape leaves together and leave boxing to the actual fighter.
Jermall Charlo just beat a guy not only smaller than him but also lacking power that could hurt him. The Charlo brothers look really good against inferior opposition. But when they fight top level fighters not so much. Jermall’s last fight was a gift decision and his brother lost a decision to good fighter. The Charlo brothers kind of suck.
Charlo could have made things a lot easier if he had gone to the body early. Hogan’s jerky and erratic movement made him hard to hit to the head. Charlo didn’t really get to him until Hogan’s movement slowed down. Body shots would have slowed him down a lot sooner.
Hogan gave Charlo a good fight but he was the much smaller man and didn’t have true punching power. Charlo said he was going to throw combinations as a way to beat Hogan, but usually only threw one at a time because of Hogan’s constant movement.
Hogan ultimately just wasn’t a true test for Charlo. A fight against Eubank, Andrade or Derevychenko should be next if Charlo wants to continue his momentum towards a unification of middleweight titles.
Glad the ref stopped this fight when Hogan was dropped in the 7th. I think we all knew going into this Charlo was the pit bull facing the smaller pooch.
Charlo is the man with the WBC belt at 160. Canelo is not coming back to 160 to fight him. I do not even think Charlo has to fight Jacobs. Jacobs is old now, 32, and what is his record since he was 30? 3-2 (1 of the wins was split decision); and Jacobs is up at 168 or 170 fighting Chavez Jr now. Charlo fights a couple of these guys and he is legit for sure as WBC champ at 160:
2. Kamil Szeremeta
3. Sergey Derevyanchenko
4. Liam Williams
6. Esquivia Falcao
It’s time we see Charlo fight someone with actual KO power who had skills. I’d love to see if Charlo can take a solid punch! Oh well, fat chance, right?
