WBA, WBC support a Wilder-Ruiz showdown

Gilberto Jesus Mendoza, president of the World Boxing Association (WBA), took advantage of his visit to Mexico City to meet with his WBC counterpart Mauricio Sulaiman, with whom he discussed various topics of world sporting events and committed to work hand in hand for the good of pugilism.

In the middle of the tribute to Andy Ruiz, who holds the WBA Super Championship and the IBF and WBO belts, both spoke about the possibility that the Mexican-American native will face American Deontay Wilder. They agreed that it is a fight that must be fought and that this will be the case when each one fulfills the immediate commitments that lie ahead.

“Ruiz is the first Mexican heavyweight champion in history and a warrior from Mexico always needs to have the WBC belt, as well as a Venezuelan the WBA,” said Mendoza after his meeting with Sulaiman.

They both wanted the promoters to agree for the fight to be held, since it is the only thing that is missing once the organizations have given the green light to the possibility of a confrontation.

The WBA and the WBC have always been sister organizations and relying on the phrase of Don Gilberto Mendoza “We are going to do it, we can do it. Let’s do it together,” the two leaders pledged to join forces to make boxing a better sport in the short, medium, and long term.

  • wilder and ruiz would be a good fight. but i got wilder by knockout.

    • I say in 3 rounds Ruiz will be on a gurney on his way to the ER ROOM

      • All this propaganda talks. Ruiz will not accept to fight wilder. If he dares. Off course we know how it ends. He might just be the body to wilders record. “I want a body in my record” @bronzebomber

  • That will be a great fight to watch but Wilder is exceptional and will finally defeat Ruiz Jr

    • Talk is cheap. Porky might be small. Look at tyson. He faced some really big negroes. With a couple of million pesos. You can hire good trainers. The past is over and what is real is the present.

  • LMAO WILDER WILL OUT RIGHT BREAK RUIZ’S SKULL . JOSHUA WAS A BUM PERIOD. A PAPER CHAMPION AT BEST..
WILDER IS A TRULY DEVASTATING BOXER AS ITS BEEN PROVEN IN HIS FIGHTS. BY HIS KNOCKOUTS.
LET ALL THE PUNDITS SIT AROUND AND SAY THIS AND THAT ABOUT HOW JOSHUA WAS THIS OR THAT BEFORE AND AFTER HE GOT IS ASS WHIPPED. ILL SAY THIS FOR HIM . PROOF NEVER EVER TAKE ANYONE LIGHTLY WHEN YOU FACE THEM. LET RUIZ STEP IN AGAINST WILDER . WONT LAST 3 ROUNDS . BRING A GURNEY RUIZ WILL NEED IT .

    • Right now the paper champion is Wilder. The only top guy he fought beat him and he got a gift decision. He will probably beat Ruiz yes, but until he does, his belt doesn’t mean much

    • How do you figure? Joshua is more tactful and got counter punched. You think hapless, unpolished deontay wilder that swings with his whole body off balance wont get countered even more sharply than Joshua??? If thats what you think.. Maybe you been punched to much. ; )

  • Wilder is not the True King until he has ALL Da Championship Belts & Ruiz is not not a True King until he beats Wilder. Make the ‘WARRIOR KING” fight happen.

  • Ruiz is a perfect match up for Wilder style, not a mover, but is not a face first brawler with reallly fast hands counter punching. Wilder is a C class boxer with A class punching power and suspected chin. I will approach carefully this fight, based on defense and chin differences that favors Ruiz, but still I like Wilder if this fight take place.

    • Wilder is the only one if the top heavies who hasn’t been down as a pro including Ruiz how is his chin suspect?

  • Translation: We want a big money fight and the giant sanctioning fees that come with it. (I wouldn’t count Ruiz out against Wilder, no pun intended).

  • How is it that the BOs didn’t talk so much about Wilder/AJ which had been brewing for years?
They should push for the winner of the AJ/AR rematch to fight Wilder but more importantly Dillian Whyte (unless there is a unification) should meet the winner of Wilder/Ortiz

    • Dillian Whyte was the biggest loser the night Ruiz stopped AJ. When you consider that Wilder and Fury have apparently set their rematch already and now AJ has to rematch Ruiz, Whyte is without a nice payday for at least a year. Worse yet, it seems like it could be closer to two years. If AJ regains his title, then we are likely looking at a Trilogy. If Ruiz wins, then his obvious move would be the winner of Fury vs Wilder.

Whyte seems to be on the outside looking in and I can’t picture how he gets that big money fight in the near future.

  • “a warrior from Mexico always needs to have the WBC belt” wtf? They hoping to hand Deontay’s belt to Ruiz obviously.

  • If they really wanted to make boxing better they would dissolve both organizations.

      • Casual much Dave? Wilder almost got knocked out by Ortiz or did you forget that? One more punch and Wilder would not have gotten up!

  • It’s great to read all these options. And no facts. Is Stephen A Smith in here? Is he in here brain washing his opinions into ur head? It is still very obvious people are not educating themselves before giving an opinion on a topic that is so black and white. This kid Andy Ruiz has been in the map whooping and out boxing ever opponent he faces. As A fact, a the reason why Andy Ruiz wasn’t known by 87% of the world that doesn’t see or know boxing was do to lack of promotion and the lack of Top Rank Boxing Association Exposure. Andy Ruiz Jr Almost Gave uP do to the lack of a Pay Day he clearly disserved. For all you doubterse you guys should hear and or DM Evander Hollyfield and just ask him how hard and how fast Andy Ruiz is… Ask Lenxu Lewis what he thinks off Andy Ruiz Jr skills as a boxer and the power he carries behind that left hook, that left jab that moves your hole body as it makes contact, and a class A knock out pounch. Lenxu said… The sound that comes off Ruiz Jr hands when he makes contact is unreal. You know he’s laying down the Law!
    Facts not Opinions !

    • We need to get you an English book so you can study how to spell, as that will allow your fellow posters on this site to take your comments seriously.

  • Wilder against Ruiz would probably end in a similar fashion to Evander Holyfield against Buster Douglas. Douglas shocked the world when he knocked out Mike Tyson and then looked like he was was supposed to look against Tyson when he fought Evander Holyfield.

  • And the ones that have made boxing a WWE circus show now want this title with a Mexican fighter. WHY does anyone need or want the WBC/WBA organizations ? Besides their 40 different champs in each division and their 1 or 2 pounds difference in the lower weight divisions, their fee’s and their B.S has gone on for to many years now. Best thing the boxing public can do is INSIST for a boxing czar/commissioner and insist that these organizations no longer have any credibility with the boxing public. Get rid of these BLOOD SUCKERS and make the sport a real sport again. We cannot continue with these leeches. And we must have promoters that CANNOT know or have ANYTHING to do with any judges what so ever. The U.S.A must have this boxing Czar recognize 1 champion universally and without any other champ in that division, let the alphabet orgs CHOKE on their phony champs and phony ratings. And the best boxing of all time needs to have HBO back in the showing of real fights, we all can see why they decided they did not want the WWE circus being called championship boxing fights. And BTW a guy named Teddy Atlas would be a very good consideration for a boxing Czar !!!!!

    • I am Steve eagle and I approve this message. I am Chris the natural and I endorse Steve eagle for boxing czar

    • Teddy Atlas is a competent boxing commentator and trainer, but unfortunately also a racist. So, no, he wouldn’t be a good consideration for a boxing authority of any sorts.

  • If Molina can hurt Wilder what makes you think Ruiz cant. Wilder’s defense is bad.

  • I don’t think of Wilder Ruiz fight would happen because AJ is going to regain his titles this fall.
Wilder has the deal with the remnants of Ortiz which could still prove to be dangerous and then he has a rematch with Fury. I just don’t see Wilder and Ruiz remaining champions after they fulfill their obligations. I still think the best heavyweight in the world when he follows a game plan is Anthony Joshua. The best heavyweight in the world on any given night is the current lineal champion, the Gypsy King. Ruiz got very very lucky but is not cut out to be the lineal heavyweight champion of the world.

Really?? Who wouldn’t support that showdown?

    The headline should really read:

“WBA, WBC would love to cash in on a Wilder-Ruiz showdown”

Its hard to tell whether there is more corruption than hypocrisy in boxing or its the other way around.

  • Sure the WBA and WBC will support it, as long as they get their massive section fees.

  • Joshua’s a bum fury is also a bum. Wilder is the man. Ruiz got lucky he might have Joshua’s number but Deontay will beat him possible KO.
