The Government of Atlantico, Department of Colombia, awarded the “Golden Gate of Colombia” medal to WBA President Gilberto Jesus Mendoza, thanks to his work for the sport and youth of that country, in addition to the work he has done throughout the world of boxing.
During Thursday night’s “Double Impact” event, a presentation was carried out, in which a medal was placed on the president to applause and cheers of all those present at the Sugar Baby Rojas Coliseum in Barranquilla.
Mendoza spoke to everyone present and stressed that his goal is to help develop Colombia’s talent. “Our intention is to show that in Colombia there are great warriors and there is great talent. I receive this recognition with great joy and on behalf of the entire World Boxing Association I give thanks for this,” said Mendoza.
One of Mendoza’s main goals as president of the WBA has been to help fighters who come from countries where boxing has fewer opportunities for their talent to be seen.
