Today’s EBU bids and updates

By Marco Bratusch

At today’s EBU bid that bestowed the right for staging the next, vacant European jr middleweight title between co-challengers Orlando Fiordigiglio (27-1, 12 KOs) and Zakaria Attou (25-6-2, 7 KOs), French boxing promotion Europrom of Gerard Teysseron outbid Italian Boxe Loreni offering the handsome sum of 65,001 Euros against 44,080 Euros, to be split 50/50 between the contenders. The belt became vacant at the beginning of June, when former champion Cedric Vitu – the only winner against Italian Fiordigiglio in 2015 when he won the vacant belt – decided to unfasten it from his waist after becoming the new IBF mandatory challenger. Attou, aged 35 compared with Fiordigilio’s 33, is the former European Union (EU) titlist, a belt he earned in his rematch against Emanuel Della Rosa last September and that he defended once. Europrom will release date and venue of the aforementioned bout in the following weeks.

Another important bid expected to take place today at noon in Rome for the European middleweight title held by Emanuele Blandamura (27-2, 5 KOs) has finally been void earlier this morning as OPI Since 82 reached a private deal with 27-year-old undefeated official challenger Kamil Szeremeta (16-0, 2 KOs)’s managers. The bout might be scheduled for the next November in Italy, according to OPI.

Italian-Spaniard jr welterweight Luca Giacon (29-1, 25 KOs), 29-year-old, has finally cleared up his medical position after back-and-forth discussions with Spanish Boxing Federation over the last months. He is now expected to defend his IBF International belt for the first time facing English southpaw Sam O’maison (14-1, 6 KOs), aged 26. This bout will be the second test for the hard-hitter Giacon, who is awaited for bigger challenges by the end of the year. World Factory Event will be promoting the card, in co-promotion with OPI Since 82, at the Palacio de Deporte in Malaga, Spain, on next August 5th. A Spanish super middleweight title defended for the second time by Ronny Landaeta (11-0, 7 KOs), born in Venezuela, and José Miguel Fandino (11-2, 7 KOs) will play as chief support.

Europrom confirms that the European Union (EU) bantamweight title fight between the champion Omar Lamiri (18-2, 8 KOs) and Spaniard challenger Moncho Miras (9-0, 3 KOs) has been appointed earlier than previously communicated, now to take place on September 22nd in Monaco instead of October 14th.
