Unbeaten lightweight Jamaine Oritz (15-0-1, 8 KOs) pounded out a ten round unanimous decision over Nahir Albright (14-2, 7 KOs) on Friday night at the Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando, Florida. Otis was in command all the way, winning 98-92, 97-93, 97-93. Oritz picked up the vacant NABF title.

Unheralded super welterweight Marquis Taylor (12-1-1, 1 KO) and unbeaten former amateur star Paul Kroll (9-0-1, 6 KOs) battled to an eight round draw. Taylor beat Kroll to the punch and outworked him all night but didn’t get any love from two of the judges. Scores were 80-72 Taylor, 77-75 Kroll, 76-76.

  • Props to Taylor who fought an excellent fight but didn’t get justice from two of the judges.

    • Taylor didn’t do enough the first four rounds and was outworked enough to lose all of them very closely. He won the last four rounds easily but four rounds apiece not outrageous-had it scored the same way.

  • Most importantly: Who was the hot looking well-dressed brunette on the Albright side of the ring. Possibly a commission worker. Couldn’t take my eyes off her.

  • Kroll fought like an amateur and a bad one at that. He was lunging and throwing wild haymakers that missed most of the time. His amateur experience sure didn’t show up in this fight. I thought he clearly lost the decision but got a gift with the draw.

As for Ortiz, he boxed smartly, had good footwork and was turning Albright all night to land his punches. His uppercuts were right on target. He looked experienced and calm and methodically outboxed Albright most of the fight.

I thought the cards were way too close. Ortiz won at least 8 of the rounds. He’s the one who seems to have a future in the sport. Kroll had better go back to the drawing board because he sure gave a mediocre (and that’s putting it mildly) performance tonight.

  • Kroll was fortunate to get a draw. Ortiz did well when he stood his ground while Albright seemed to have problems pulling the trigger.
