Kell Brook (40-3, 28 KOs) settled his long-simmering dispute with Amir Khan (34-6, 21 KOs) with a six round beatdown on Saturday night at the AO Arena in Manchester, England. Brook staggered Khan in round one and stalked him the entire fight. Khan was outmuscled and outpunched the whole way and referee Victor Loughlin finally stopped the punishment in round six. Time was :51.
Speaking after the fight Brook said: “I’ve sacrificed so much time to train for this fight, they won’t remember all of my fights they’ll just remember me fighting Amir Khan. No disrespect to Amir, but it felt so easy in there, I’m happy the chapter has closed on Amir Khan now.
“This is the icing on the cake in my career, I can feel at peace knowing I’ve beaten him. Do I want to carry on? I’m going to sit down with my family and consider my future in the sport.
“I would’ve wanted more of a clinical knockout, like how Canelo did. But he’s been fantastic for the sport, he’s a two-time world champion for a reason and I’m just happy that we got to fight.”
Natasha Jonas (11-2-1, 7 KOs) destroyed Chris Namus (25-7, 8 KOs) in two rounds to claim the vacant WBO female junior middleweight world title. Jonas dropped Namus in round one and finished her in round two. Jonas moved up three weight divisions.
In a clash of heavyweights making their professional debuts, British Olympic bronze medalist Frazer Clarke made quick work of Jake Darnell, stopping him in the first round.
Unbeaten middleweight Bradley Rea (11-0, 5 KOs) scored a first round KO against Craig McCarthy (8-1-1, 2 KOs).
Cruiserweight Viddal Riley (5-0, 2 KOs) defeated Willbeforce Shihepo (25-14, 18 KOs). Former KSI trainer Riley, who has 587k followers on Instagram, dropped the 39-year-old Shihepo in round one but was forced to go the full six rounds. Score was 60-53.
Unbeaten super middleweight Germaine Brown (12-0, 3 KOs) dethroned English champion Charlie Schofield (17-2, 1 KO) over ten in a bout that figured to go the distance. Score was 98-92, 99-92, 98-92.
Great job but sadly the lack of quality fighters is sad because these titles are not holding value
Congrats to Natasha Jonas, but the stoppage was way too early. Chris Namus has 30+ fights and is a former champion. The shots were clean and they were fair knock downs, but she wasn’t hurt on the second one. She was able to communicate this to her corner who almost threw in the towel, but the ref stopped it. I think these refs stop the women’s matches way too fast. These are boxers and should be treated as such. She was unsteady on her feet in after the first knock down so I would have excepted him to wave it off that that point more than round two. The second knock down was not a big knock down and she was clear headed.
Natasha Jonas, a beautiful human being!
Love your work, your attitude and dedication. A fantastic mum too.
Well done again for not giving up.
Issue with the gloves for the main event right now apparently…..
I think we all knew Brook was always the better fighter between the two. Brook reminded me of Mike the Body Snatcher McCallum the way he was just walking right through Khan because he knew Khan couldn’t dent him.
Looks like brook is back in the mix. We’ll somewhat …
Brook looks like he might have a big fight or two left in him. Kahn looks like he is gonna have brain damage if he fights again.
Kahn came out swinging hard, almost like he knew his only chance was to catch Kell cold. Exciting while it lasted but by round 3 we all knew what the outcome would be. I wouldn’t mind seeing Brook fight Eubank, it would generate a lot of interest in England and he has a chance to win IMO.
Thank god, now king glass jaw can enjoy retirement. Was hoping he went out on his back but did take a beating
King glass jaw took hard shots and only one of them would’ve knocked the crap out of your mouth.. Respect please..
Yeah righto fan boy, one punch on your chin and you would fold like a deck chair
Boy was I wrong! Thought Kell drained himself & will be tired early hehehe…oh well rest well guys & enjoy your paychecks
I don’t know who has the worst jaw in history Glass Joe from Mike Tyson Punch Out or Amir Khan lol
I had Khan, but full credit to Brook for doing the clear and decisive job of it. Definitely end of the line for Khan, but I’m wondering how big of a leap Brook takes in his next fight. I’d imagine the Benn fight is big business now.
Congratulations to both fighters,. It should happen long ago.
I think pacman will win against these 2.
What a sad and depressing card, complete crap. This up there with some of the worst cards I have ever watched. Only saw the main event live and rewind and hoped there would be something good on the prelims, but those were even worst than the main event. Khan is totally shot and Brook not much behind.
Khan wasn’t able to display any advantage in speed and championship experience. Brook has always been the bigger fighter, and it was evident from the opening bell. Brook may have a couple options, Eubank would be a good fight; however, size would be a concern. Khan will hopefully retire and stay retired.
I was rooting for Khan but knew the outcome although I thought Khan would last a bit longer. Sad because no way Brook would’ve beat Khan in their prime..
It’s time to hang on the gloves for Amir and will always thank him for what he has done for the sport i love..
No surprise. Brook looked stronger, more fit, more explosive at the weigh-in. Khan looked skinny and with that glass jaw, I knew he was in trouble. Glad Brook prevailed in the way that he did.
Khan does not handle punches well. Brook walked him down and took Kahn out. Good stoppage by the ref. Kahn was taking a pounding. Good scrap.
Great Fight!!!
I wasnt too bothered about this fight when it was announced, but it lived up to its expectations. Fireworks from the start and heard it did well across the pond on ESPN2.
Brook shouldnt fight Eubank, it would be a very dangerous fight, he should take a rematch with Porter or fight Garcia, Thurman. These are more winnable fights.
I think we all know now why Khan RAN from Brook so hard. Duck would be too kind a word. Tried RUNNING at the last second with the glove change, praying the fight would be cancelled. Thank God Brook said ok and then stopped him, lol! Go away A Mere Con.
I got this wrong. I thought Khan would be fresher and could see him winning a wide decision or even wearing Brook down.
Khan should definitely retire and I think Brook should too.
Enjoyed that fight last night. Pisses me off how much everyone is going into the ‘passed it’ argument. Yeah they are not peak but they are 35 ffs. It would have always happened. He can’t (khan’t?) take a shot. So if anyone has any timing at all , they beat him up. Khan fans are like shit versions of Tyson fans, where all judgement is based on this one short short period of time when he was optimum. Noone else gets this privilege. People still talk about Lennox fighting a shit Tyson and Lennox was older! Khan was spectacular to watch when he looked good but was always shit deep down for the obvious reason
In fairness CB, Tyson was 37-0 undisputed champ when Lewis was boxing only his second pro fight at the bottom of Tyson’s undercard. Tyson had way more ring wear than Lewis, not to mention the tougher life (prison, drugs, not living like an athlete), so simply saying they were the same age misses the point.
Point taken on Tyson, but then you could just use Lewis as an example. I thought it was quite interesting how Crawford and Porter are both 34 and they just fought. On a side note, i personally believe the idea of Brook’s wear was totally blown out of proportion, simply because the Crawford right jab/kind of hook didn’t look like a typical fight changer. In reality Brook looked sharp in that fight. He was outjabbing crawford and noone does that. Now everyone is banging on about Brook’s timing being “back” and his sharpness being ‘back’. It never really went away. He isn’t prime, but he isn’t a shot fighter
All action from the opening bell, least it lived up to its hype unlike the Mayweather/ Pacquiao fight which was a joke.
Speaking of them, would love for Brook to lure either one of them out of retirement to fight him.
khan should retire brooke might have one more fight left in him who knows
I’ve never been an Amir Khan fan. Thought he was the product of media marketing trying to make him the next Prince Hamed.
Khan has the heart but no chin. He should retire. I wouldn’t watch any of his fight, including this one.
Kkhan was washed up 4 years ago
