Linares to face WBC #1 Fortuna Aug 28

A high-stakes battle of international proportions heads to Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, Calif. as Jorge “El Niño de Oro” Linares (47-5, 29 KOs) takes on Javier “El Abejon” Fortuna (35-2-1, 24 KOs) in a 12-round fight for the WBC diamond lightweight championship. The fights will take place on Friday, August 28 and will be streamed live on DAZN.

The event will be closed to the public and media. Details for the undercard will be announced shortly.

There had been take for months about Linares facing Ryan “Kingry” Garcia, but after the Kingry camp turned the fight down, it’s WBC #1 rated Fortuna who gets the fight.

  • So disappointed that Garcia did not take the Linares fight. Linares seemed like the perfect next step for him and while Linares would certainly would have tested him I liked Ryan’s chances. I hope the people advising him are going to come to their sense. Missed ooportunity. Beat Linares, then you move to another pay-bracket.
