LA Fight Club: Sanchez stops Martin

Featherweight Emilio Sanchez (17-1, 12 KOs) of Pacoima, California returned to the ring with a fifth round stoppage over San Diego’s Christopher Martin (30-10-3, 10 KOs) of San Diego, Friday night at the Belcaso Theater in downtown Los Angeles in the LA Fight Club main event.

Fighting on the inside in round three, Sanchez connected Martin with a right uppercut staggering him and sending him to the canvas as he got up and finished the round. The following round, Sanchez continued to stay on top connecting with big punches as Martin’s left eye began to shut. Sanchez was all over Martin in the fifth as the left eye began to worsen. Referee Jack Reiss waved the bout at the end of the fifth.

San Antonio lightweight prospect Hector Tanajara Jr. (15-0, 5 KOs) won a lackluster unanimous decision in dominating Emmanuel Morales (7-3, 4 KOs) of Puerto Rico for eight rounds. Tanajara connected with straight punches in the opening round as he tagged Morales flush. Circling the ring in round two, Tanajara boxed kept his distance as Morales stalked and was on the receiving end of Tanajara’s punches. Tanajara dominated and outclassed the Puerto Rican Morales throughout the fight as Morales offered no resistance in going the distance. All three judges scored the bout 80-72.

Raymond Muratalla (5-0, 3 KOs) of Fontana, California won a unanimous decision over Guillaume Lorenzo (2-2) of France in a scheduled four round lightweight bout. It was a fast start as Muratalla backed Lorenzo letting his hands go but the Frenchman stood his ground. The fast pace continued in round two with Muratalla keeping his distance popping the jab as Lorenzo lunged letting his hands go. Exchanging to start the third round, Muratalla landed a hard counter as Lorenzo went down but got up and continued to fight. Finishing strong in the fourth round, Muratalla kept the pressure but Lorenzo did not back down in going the distance and giving Muratalla all he could handle. All three judges scored the bout 40-35.

Featherweight Oscar Acevedo (5-0) of Garden City, Kansas won a unanimous decision over Gerardo Molina (2-5, 1 KO) of Mexico. The tall southpaw Acevedo attacked Molina in the opening round with hard counter shots. Backing his opponent up in round two, Acevedo attacked the body and boxed later in the round as he had Molina pressing. Mixing it up in round three, Acevedo exchanged inside and kept his distance as Molina kept coming. The fourth and final round Acevedo stood on top of Molina hammering away and finishing strong in route to a hard fought unanimous decision win. All three judges scored the bout 40-36.

In the opening bout from the Belasco Theater in downtown Los Angeles lightweight Recky Dulay (11-3, 8 KOs) of the Philippines had his hands full with tough journeyman Juan Sandoval (7-23-1, 4 KOs) of San Bernadino in a scoring a fifth round knockout in a scheduled six round lightweight bout. Dulay and Sandoval got off to an ugly start as they clashed heads and exchanged low blows in the opening round. The Filipino backed Sandoval with a hard right in the third round. Sandoval returned the favor in the fourth as he backed Dulay with a right hand in the closing seconds of the round. However a crushing right hand by Dulay in the fifth did it as Sandoval hit the canvas and was out cold. Referee Jack Reiss stopped the fight 35 seconds into the fifth.
