Khan beats Vargas by unanimous decision

Former world champion Amir “King” Khan (33-4, 20 KOs) scored a twelve round unanimous decision over Samuel Vargas (29-4, 14 KOs) in a welterweight clash at the Arena Birmingham in Birmingham, England. Khan looked very fast and strong early. In a wild round two, Khan dropped Vargas and had it all going his way when suddenly Vargas floored Khan with a big right hand just before the bell. Vargas was knocked down again in round three after a punch on top of the head. Huge round five for Khan who mercilessly battered Vargas, but things slowed after that. Scores were 119-108, 119-109, 118-110.

After the fight, Khan stated he could have stopped Vargas but he wanted to do twelve rounds. He also named Manny Pacquiao and Kell Brook as potential opponents. Pacquiao is first choice, and if not Pacquaio then he’ll face Brook.
