July will be a month of great boxing activity for the World Boxing Association (WBA). No less than seven championship fights will be sanctioned by the oldest organizing body in boxing. The first fight was held last Saturday in Kazakhstan as local fighter Beibut Shumenov stopped Hizni Altunkaya for the vacant WBA cruiserweight world title.
The second fight of the month will be Saturday in Germany was WBA super middleweight champion Tyron Zeuge will defend his crown for the fourth time against the Rocky Fielding.
On Sunday in Malaysia (Saturday night in the USA), boxing superstar Manny “Pac-Man” Pacquiao will challenge WBA welterweight champion Lucas “The Machine” Matthysse.
Plus on the Pacquiao-Matthysse undercard, two more WBA crowns will be at stake. The WBA light flyweight belt will be defended by Carlos Canizalez against Bin Lu, while Edivaldo Ortega and Jhack Tepora fight for the vacant WBA featherweight title.
On July 21 WBA cruiserweight super champion Murat Gassiev collides with Oleksandr Usyk in Russia in the WBSS tournament finale with all four major belts on the line.
The same night in the United States, Alberto “El Explosivo” Machado defends against Rafael Mensah with the WBA super featherweight title at stake.
