Hero’s welcome for Felix Alvarado in Nicaragua

Newly crowned IBF light flyweight world champion Felix Alvarado (34-2, 30 KOs) arrived back to his native Nicaragua today for the first time as a world champion. Alvarado was greeted by a large mass of people at the local international airport including fellow countryman and four-division world champion Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez.

Alvarado systematically broke down and stopped Randy Petalcorin (28-3, 22 KOs) in round 7 to win his world title. Alvarado did so in front of Petalcorin’s hometown fans in the Philippines this past Monday.

With the win, Alvarado has immediately vaulted himself in demand for the biggest fights in the division.

His manager is already in pursuit for one in his next fight. “I am so happy for Felix. He is such a professional in and out of the ring. He earned his first world title about the hardest way a fighter can. I never had any doubt that he would win this fight in the manner he did. He had a maximum preparation for this fight. The location was never an issue for me as I felt sooner or later Felix would stop him. Felix has been matched tough early and often in his career and it showed and paid off in this fight. I believe there are levels in boxing and Felix showed his class. I am already actively in pursuit of a big fight for when he returns to the ring,” said WRAM Boxing (William Ramirez).
