Flo Simba is back with a win

By Ron Jackson

Flo Simba from the DRC but based in South Africa, who was at one time considered a promising young heavyweight, returned to the ring after nearly three years to score a fourth round stoppage win over the gutsy Josh Pretorious at the Presleys Nightclub in Boksburg on Thursday night. Simba (96.60kg) looking much slower than he was in the past battled to get into the fight through the first two rounds against the lesser experienced Pretorius (100kg).

However, this must have been due to his long absence from the ring, as he picked up the pace in round three and it came as no surprise when referee Simon Mokadi stopped the fight early in the fourth round. Simba improved his record to 14-5, 12 KOs, and Pretorious’ record dropped 3-2, 3 KOs.

On the same card, Alfonso Tissen (76.20kg) who is listed as the 4th-ranked super-middleweight by Boxing SA made hard work of scoring a unanimous eight round points decision over Malawian, Chimwemwe Chiotcha (70.40kg). The scores were 80-70, 77-74 and 77-73. Tissen was made to miss on numerous occasions by the southpaw Chiotcha and when he did land it was mostly with arm punches which had no power behind them.

With nearly close on a six kilogram weight advantage Tissen was expected to have an easy nights work as Chiotcha weighed in below the middleweight limit.
